Where is home?

Nashville. The Eastern Shore. The Texas hill country. Barcelona. Anywhere a group of singing/songwriting/struggling dreamers is huddled, sipping something, solving the problems of the world. 

Where do you get your ideas?

I steal seeds of ideas from writers and artists that I love, and then I try to grow them into something uniquely my own. I am rooted in Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Michael Jackson, and paperback books.  

What's your favorite movie?

The Bodyguard. Clearly! I love Rita Hayworth. And Edward Norton. And Ellen Page. 

If you were a vegetable...

I'd be a beet. Or a snow pea.

If you were crowned Miss America/Ms. President, what would your first action be??? 

Cliches aside, I would work for world peace. And I think it starts with reading. Books let us experience other people's realities, and we become less afraid of the differences between us. Literacy is huge. Dolly Parton has an amazing organization called "The Imagination Library" that gives free books to kids every month. I'd probably earmark a bunch of money for Dolly's literacy organization just to get the ball rolling. Come to think of it, I might just pretend I've been crowned Miss America and see how far I can get...

Do you like dogs?

I do. I really do. Small, big, hairy, in-need-of-a-bath. I adore them all. 

The mountains or the coast?

The coast. I swim like a fish. I like to sweat. And I don't mind sand in my bathing suit.

Why do you play music?

Because it moves me. And sometimes, when I am lucky, it moves me in the direction of other people, and we collide.
